As an LSTC student pursuing diaconal ministry, I recently had the opportunity to attend the Diaconal Ministry Formation Event (DMFE) at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg.
This annual event prepares diaconal candidates for their ministries of Word and Service through networking opportunities, lectures on the history and theology of the diaconate, information sessions about the candidacy and assignment process, and intentional time for spiritual formation. Gettysburg hosts the DMFE on behalf of all the ELCA seminaries, so the event was also an opportunity to meet and develop relationships with other seminarians who will shortly become colleagues in the ministry of Word and Service.
My own call to the roster of Diaconal Ministry was affirmed during the event, and I feel prepared and enriched by my experience at the DMFE. I am excited to continue my academic studies and spiritual journey at LSTC this semester and to further discern with the supportive community of friends, staff, and professors here how God is calling me to be a bridge and liaison between the church and the world!
